Jean Marshall, LLB, MA, Solicitor

1964 to 1968

Information

Jean went to TDS from an ordinary school and returned to the sixth form when she left TDS.  She does not have a very rosy view of TDS, unlike some other students.

Jean started work at the Home Office as an Executive Officer. After successfully completing a law degree and the Solicitors’ Finals, she obtained Articles with Gloucestershire County Council and qualified as a solicitor in 1990. She was then employed as an Assistant Solicitor with the West Midlands Probation Service in Birmingham for five and a half years, before leaving for health reasons. During her employment, she was engaged in a general practice role, providing legal advice and assistance relevant to the work of a large probation authority. Following this, she completed a Masters’ Degree in the Philosophy and Ethics of Mental Health, and also commenced a Masters’ Degree in Employment Law, but was unable to complete this for reasons connected with her partner’s health. Jean has been a carer for several years and, when health permits, provides unpaid legal advice to her partner’s small company and to small charities, such as GDOSS and Alert, although she no longer has a practising certificate.
